Fit 1993
Part of series of works for solo show Possible Clouds for The AEAF, Adelaide - Fit explores the relationship between the interior of the body, silence, language, desire and madness.
The 2 dimensional photograph and the plaster block 'fit' each other for both represent the mouth as an absent presence. The cavity of the Inside mouth is inside the body as well as a threshold space between the outside world and the interior of the body. We hold food in our mouths before we swallow for instance and can make the decision to spit something out if it tastes strange or we dont want to eat it. Metaphorically we speak of emotions 'bubbling up' inside and of 'holding things in' thus the body is also considered as a 'container' of emotions and felt experience.
